Fuel prices remained stable in July and are virtually unchanged compared to June, the latest AA fuel prices survey shows.
The average petrol price is €1.65 in July, the same as in June, with the average price for diesel rising by a marginal two cents to hit €1.55.
“Following the duty increases last month, we have seen prices remain steady,” AA Ireland’s Blake Boland said.
“Aside from the upcoming signalled duty increases, there is no reason to believe there should be much upheaval to prices in the short term,” he added.
On September 1, these duty rates will increase by seven cents for petrol and five cents for diesel. The Government is due to will fully restore the rates on October 31 with a final increase of eight cents for petrol and six cents for diesel.
The AA also said today that electric vehicle drivers are paying almost identical amounts this month as electricity prices remain pretty high.
The average EV driver pays €1,158.99 to charge their car a year, but those who use Smart Meters and cheap night rates pay as little as €403.85 to cover the same 17,000km distance.
The AA added that those charging exclusively on public chargers could pay more than €2,000 a year.
With wholesale gas prices falling in recent months, EV drivers anxiously await a corresponding drop in electricity prices. Pressure is increasing on electricity suppliers to lower costs.
